About Martham Carnival
The Martham Fun Carnival, established in July 1980, has evolved into a cherished annual event in the village. Originally organised by the Martham Village Hall committee, the inaugural carnival featured a diverse array of attractions:
Vehicles and Tractors: Coordinated by David Utting, owner of Fantasia in the village.
Steam Engines: Organized by Jack Durrant.
Stalls and Parade: Managed by Bob W.
The event's success led to its continuation for several years, with Bob W. dedicating 15 years to organizing it. Notably, one year saw 104 stalls set up on the greens, and Radio Norfolk broadcasted live from the site.
Over time, as operating costs increased, the carnival's income was primarily allocated to cover these expenses. In 2016, the event faced the risk of discontinuation. However, Tracy P. and Bob W. revitalised it, ensuring its continuation.
Today, the Martham Fun Carnival remains a vibrant community event, attracting large crowds and supporting local causes. The dedication of the current committee ensures its ongoing success, with each year bringing new improvements and attractions.
Our Current Committee for Carnival 2025
All still have close links to the village & carnival.
Chairperson - Tracey P - Master of keeping everyone on track & being partly responsible for keeping the carnival alive & adds over 9 years experience & enthusiasm for organizing the event.
Fundraising - Belinda the daughter of Jack Durrant - who organises spectacular events throughout the year to raise the money to keep this going & works tirelessly to ensure an amazing carnival day we would be lost without her!
Treasurer - Lisa - what can we say! All the money raised & making sure people get paid is down to our wonderful lady of the numbers! She also turns out to be a bit of a whizz when it comes to decorations - Anyone who visited Santa's Grotto December 2024 will surely agree!
